Nicole Curby

Nicole is the writer, producer and co-host of The Wait. She’s an audio producer, journalist and oral historian. Her written and audio work has appeared on ABC Radio NationalThe Saturday PaperThe Monthly podcast, Deutsche Welle, and Overland Journal.

She lived in Jakarta in 2016 and 2017, working on the regional radio current affairs program, Asia Calling.

Nicole has followed the situation for refugees and asylum seekers in Indonesia for three years, documenting stories across the country in a series of articles and audio works. The Wait is the culmination of long-term research, collaboration and friendship stretching across time and place.

Mozhgan Moarefizadeh

Co-host and reporter on The Wait, Mozhgan is also a human rights advocate, public speaker and refugee law paralegal, with a Bachelor’s degree in English Teaching and Translation. She’s the co-founder of the Refugees and Asylum Seekers Information Centre, which coordinates eye and dental care clinics, monthly hygiene and food packages, a mental health program and connects people with legal aid inquiries.

In 2013, she left Iran with her parents and younger brother, to seek asylum elsewhere. Since then, she’s been living in Indonesia, where she’s been recognised as a refugee under UNHCR’s Refugee Convention—but doesn’t have rights to work, study, marry, hold a bank account, or travel, among other things.

Bec Fary

Bec Fary is a creative audio producer and practice-based researcher. They host and produce SleepTalker, and have contributed to numerous sonic projects including The Messenger, Fauna and All The Best. Bec is currently exploring intersections between time, place and listening through their new work Local Time. They are The Wait‘s sound designer.
